The Pension Advocacy Group was established by Tina Padilla after she retired from teaching and her services as an elected trustee of the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund. Trustee Padilla was unable to implement all the necessary changes to effectively restore the Teachers’ Pension Fund during her trustee tenure. Therefore, fifteen years later, with the help of her friends, the work to engage, educate and restore members continues today.

MISSION

Our mission is to kindle financial wisdom and empower every individual to stand guard over the defined benefit retirement they earned. Through education, advocacy, and transparent oversight, we strive to create a landscape where equity can flourish. Together, we work to restore what has been lost, protect what remains, and illuminate a path of security and dignity for generations.

The shift from traditional defined benefit pensions to 401(k)-style retirement savings in many private‑sector industries has increasingly influenced public‑sector labor as well—often to the detriment of long-term retirement security. For many public employees, 403(b)‑type plans function as inadequate and unstable substitutes, offering far less protection than a guaranteed defined benefit pension. Preserving and strengthening defined benefit plans is essential to safeguarding the financial future of the public workforce and ensuring a dignified retirement for those who serve our communities.
